FREE AMERICANS WILL PREVAIL
It is the beginning of the winter of 1777 and 12,000 ragged and ill equipped men, the remnants of what appeared to be a thoroughly defeated Continental army, followed General George Washington into a winter encampment in a place called Valley Forge. They had little in the way of food or warm clothing and 2,000 of them die that winter while the British rejoice over the apparent defeat of the rebel army. Yet, this battered, but proud, group of Patriots will emerge in the spring of 1778 and continue the fight and ultimately defeat the British and establish a new and free nation.
Fast forward to the winter of 1944. The Germans have broken through the American lines with overwhelming numbers and surrounded the 101st Airborne at a Belgian town called Bastogne. Yet, the Screaming Eagles of the proud division of paratroopers refused to surrender. So, to their north the Germans attempt another breakthrough at another Belgian town named Sadzot. In the middle of the night of December 28th the Nazi SS troopers overran my father’s unit, Company B of the 87th Chemical Mortar Battalion.
In less than an hour half of the men in the company are killed, wounded, or captured and all of their mortars are lost as well as most of their vehicles. However, by morning the American survivors have joined with a small group of paratroopers and combat engineers, counterattacked and taken back the town along with all of the lost mortars and other equipment. They then proceed to hold off attacks by German tanks and infantry for several days until they are relieved. The Battle of the Bulge and the war are ultimately won.
Just a few years ago left wing politicians in this county like Senator Harry Reid and then Senator Barack Obama were somberly and somewhat gleefully announcing that the war in Iraq had been lost and that funding for our troops and their fight should be cut off. Yet, our warriors went on to win anyway. It turned out that all of the dire predictions of American defeat from 1777 to today have been premature and ultimately wrong.
Now we have another premature celebration of the demise of America going on. The so-called “progressives” in the Congress and the Obama administration are celebrating the fact that they have successfully bypassed the Constitution and undermined American Democracy by passing the Healthcare Reform Bill that is designed to change our country forever into a socialist nation with a massive government that controls our lives and limits our individual freedoms.
Well, I have some bad news for all of the socialists, or progressives, or whatever you choose to call yourselves this week, you have made a huge mistake. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, Japanese Admiral Yamamoto who led the attack said that: “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.” I suggest to President Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid that you have awakened the giant again and that this giant, made up of freedom loving Americans, is going to be coming at you from every direction you can imagine.
Individuals and State Governments will be challenging you in the courts, and Americans will take you on in the polling places. In every city, town and village you will hear the voices of angry Americans and despite your best efforts we will not be silenced. You will hear the outcry of Americans of every race, religion, and creed and we will prevail.
To my fellow freedom loving Americans I say this: I am nothing special, just a retired attorney and U.S. Army veteran who loves my country. Yet, my family has fought in every war that has America has engaged in since my ancestors first joined North Carolina and Virginia Cavalry Regiments during the Revolution. Now I have two sons fighting for our nation in the military. I will not allow their fight to have been in vain.
Help in any way you can, though letters to your local newspapers, financial support for groups filing lawsuits, or simply with your prayers for our country. We all must make our voices heard and do what is necessary to save our nation. Never despair and never surrender. For if freedom in America dies, then it dies in the rest of the world. God Bless America!

It would be easy to fall into a period of depression-induced disengagement and acquiescence; so it helps to be reminded of the character of those who have come before us, and who have sacrificed so much for the freedom that has been so cavalierly discarded without our consent.
Great message. It is about time the silent majority start making noise. The msn poll, that has been removed, showed nearly 1 million people participating. Over 67% said they were upset by the outcome of the healthcare vote. 23% were in favor, and the rest weren't sure what they thought. The playground bully is about to get his tail whipped by the new kid!! I will be there!!!
Thank you, Michael, for your continued effort to take all the rhetoric of the day, all the legalese, and boil it down to common terms so we can all clearly see the danger posed to our God-given freedoms.
I, for one, am on my knees and seeking any way I can help in this fight fought by our founding fathers. May we never forget nor let go of the principals expounded in these words, "We the people of the United States..."

We have only lost one battle, not the war. Up until December 19, 1776, George Washington and the Continental army had, basically, been in retreat. From a third, to half of Washington’s troops were unfit for duty, needing hospitalization. His command was divided and his supply situation was desperate.
On that day Thomas Pane published The American Crisis beginning with the words:
“These are times that try men's souls; the summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.”
Within a day, Washington had Pane’s words read to his troops. On December 25, 1776, heartened by Pane’s words and bolstered by additional troops, Washington and his troops crossed the Delaware River to defeat what was then considered the most “elite” military force in the world.
THIS is the soul of the spirit that IS America. We have lost a battle but, as did our forefathers, we will not give up! We will learn from our failure and return to the fight with a renewed resolve that IS terrible. The enemies, of the spirit that is America, must not be allowed to prevail for one reason. We know that if we do not defeat them now, with the law, then we doom our children, or grandchildren, to defeat them by force of arms! This can not be allowed to happen!
I am no one special. Like many others, I am, simply, an American. Over forty years ago I burned the bridge behind me and have fought for my country at home and abroad since. I challenge – no, I DEMAND – that every REAL American do the same and pay their debt to those who came before us. In every way that you can, answer our enemies with one word – NUTS! – and retreat in only one direction – directly towards the enemy!
If you think that I am angry then you are dam right! Not only my resolve, but my rage, is terrible. To borrow the words of past American Patriots, I HAVE NOT YET BEGUN TO FIGHT! To any who read this, I have only one thing to say - join me or, go home from me in peace for history WILL forget that you were ever my countrymen!

I have a question though... Whenever I bring this up, my friends just laugh and say that i'm "so political." Shouldn't I be concerned though? This is my future we're talking about. I become infuriated when I sit in my Government class and kids are drooling on their texbooks while we talk about health care. I'm trying to understand this, so if anyone wants to share any thoughts on the subject of Health Care and it's unconstitutionality, or "political correctness" or Obama's differen "Czars", please... I beg for your assistance. Help me help my friends. Help me make them care!

I LIKE your positive attitude Michael. I'm getting sick and tired of the defeatist attitudes of those who have given up already: "We'll never be able to repeal it. Maybe tweak it a bit, but never repeal it". Yes we can and will repeal it if we keep up the fight. Whats more we dont have to take to our guns to get this repealed. (not yet anyways)

Do not back away from the truths you speak. My daughter is 14 years old and will start high school next school year. A teacher asked her a question about what a Liberal is. She calmly stated that they seemed to be against the freedoms we enjoy and that they encourage people to be dependent on the government. The weekend prior, she was thrilled when she text me saying OMG dad, I am having an argument with my friend about politics. When I picked her up from her friends, she said her friend understood things better an was no longer a fan of Obama because of their future that seems to be being taken away from them.
This health care bill was not about health care. If it was, the common sense solutions would have been the way to go. Tort reform, interstate commerce, fraud reform and other simple solutions would have brought the cost down without ruining one of the best care systems in the world. That's why so many people of all standings, from leaders to citizens of other countries come here for their care.
With this bill, the government will have the power to take your earnings from your bank to pay your share that will go to those who stay on the system of government without given the resources to fend for themselves. You will for the first time in our history be forced to purchase something just for the benefit of breathing in this country, or face harsher fines including the possibility of going to jail just fr not buying a service. That is un-Constitutional.
Good luck and remember, the CBO budget score was produced only with numbers they were given and stated that it was not complete as other factors that are certain to arise out of the ashes, cannot be scored. Every government program that has ever been enacted, has been underestimated in it's cost analysis. Chances are, this bill that is supposed to save over $130 billion in ten years and 1.2 Trillion over the next ten years, will actually cost trillions of dollars rather than save.
That's when the rationing of care will start and long lines will be evident everywhere. The UK is protesting their system that has been a part of their country for a long time. What makes anyone think, that the same system the British have and are not happy with and going broke, will somehow work here? It is not sustainable by any ones common sense numbers. Good luck and stay strong.
The so-called passing of the healthcare bill that has been shoved in our faces by Obama and his cronies is not of the people! The battle has only just began. I pray that God will strengthen us so that we the people kick Obama and those who support him out of office - forever! Thank you Michael for all the work you are doing!
Thanks, Michael, for spirited, real HOPE and for the History reminder! The Dems are laughing and celebrating now, but our prayer is that they will not be doing so in November. May we not forget over the next seven months what has been happening to us for the last 14+ months, particularly. We were a long time getting here, but at least we're awake now.

I thank God there are still people like you Michael in this country. Our nation was founded on Christian beliefs and God is what holds this country together. I pray that He will continue to be patient with us until we turn back to HIm as we should and become a strong nation again. God Bless you for all your efforts.
Bloody Sunday was a sad day for America. Conned by the promise of an ephemeral executive order, tempted by bribes, and threatened if they resisted, the last holdouts in Congress caved and ObamaCare advanced -- along party lines and against the will of the people. It doesn't add a single doctor or hospital room, but needs 17,000 new IRS agents to enforce it. Even supporters admit this bill does nothing to help with health care costs, and any rational analysis shows huge deficits and rationing of care in our future if this bill stands.
Michael, thank you for your dedication and knowledge of American history. I myself had ancestors at Valley Forge and the Battle of Trenton, and I hope if America survives the horrors of this Administration's Radical Left Socialism we'll go back to our roots, back to teaching our history so our young can know why our founders set up a Republic to keep power with the people. We've forgotten our Constitution and allowed Congress (both parties) to ignore it. Shame on us.
We won the Cold War, but made a major mistake. We failed to teach our young Americans how unique our nation is in the history of the world, and how fortunate we've been to have this heritage. GOD BLESS AMERICA.
You watch.......The "hate speach" laws will be next and then we can be put in jail for saying anything negative against the government...or plant such paranoia and distrust in our citizens that no one will want to say anything. Seems we are going the way of Canada, or Cuba. Focus on the Family, a Chrisitan, family oriented organization having to edit their programming to be able to air it in Canada as to not be thown in jail for "hate speach" .......What else is next? When will ALL of America WAKE UP!

Great synopsis of this terrible bill. Several of your bloggers have mentioned the ""silent majority". I raised the question of constitutionality of this bill on a blog and a person responded that "Congress has the right to raise taxes for our health care". If this is an example of that silent majority, then maybe they should stay silent until they are better educated. Your progrm should be a must.
Now what? Please help us understand the next steps that need to be taken besides voting next November. It's a long, long way away and Obama and the Democrats still have a lot of power. What would a case that could challenge this bill's constitutionality look like? Who would put the suit forward? Who would defend the claimants? What can I as a citizen do (besides sending this to everyone I know, which I have)?

Don't forget the Lost Battalion during WWI. They were said to have been surrounded and lost when both flanks (French and British) fell back. They Americans pushed on and held the Argonne Forest. Surrounded, out numbered and out gunned, but in the end they prevailed.
I appreciate your service to our country as well as my many family members & friends service to our country. I will continue to be thankful to troops who live & die for our country and follow fearlessly the leaders of this nation whether I agree with those leaders or not. With that being said, I would like to point out that the Healthcare Bill was not passed unconstitutionally any more than the Patriot Act or SS/Medicaid, the fact that we pay income taxes.... and the list could go on forever.
I am grateful for a President & Congress who recognizes how behind the times we are in comparison to other industrialized nations! If that makes me a prgressive, liberal or whatever then fine! I definitely don't walk around with my head buried in the sand in serious ignorance thinking all is well in my upper middle class neighborhood, living off my parents trust fund, or not caring like some because I have always had insurance because I served my country 20 years & I don't need to worry about those that don't. (by the way costing our country billions)
zno, I am one of millions who up until last year lived without insurance & didn't get the appropriate healthcare & dreaded everytime my throat was sore, I had an earache or any other minor thing. Thank goodness, I didn't need anything serious all those YEARS- yes I said YEARS- without insurance.
If I have to at some point pay a little higher taxes for more people to be insured I will gladly do it! ( I have worked with the uninsured & underinsured) I have seen the pain & suffering of those struggling to get the appropriate medical needs met.
I could go on & on about myriads of things but I will say thanks for reading this & move on!
I am no visionary but the writing is huge on the wall! There will be revolution again because "True Americans" will NOT sit idly by and allow all the hard won freedoms to be lost. I say if a peaceful resolution cannot be found then "shoot when you see the whites of their eyes".
